Pops and fathers day 08 at CF.

Cut-foot Sioux, Mosomo Point and Big Winnie.

I have been taking trips to "Winnie" for many years. This eight days were a combo of
Mona's 50th and my 62nd, that adds up to hummmm, 112 years I guess.

This year marks the 100 year anniversary of the establishment of the Chippewa National Forest. Gone are the days where you could find the "cut foot tree" and the turtle mound. They have since been left unmarked by native-Americans as not to encourage tourists from damaging sacred sites. But you can still camp at Mosomo Point with a wonderful campground host, terrific views and access to all the area has to offer. Mosomo got it's name from the last chief of the Winnibigoshish tribe of the Ojiway.

The Mississipi dumps out of Big Winnie and then on to "little Winnie" before that 2000 mile journey that many of us have at one time or another have comptemplated. On this trip we floated down between the two lakes and then had to abandoned our kayak and hike out to retrive our van because of the extreme current we encountered on the return.

A great day at "sunken lake" with no one except us the loons and the eagles.

At 12 bucks a pound it almost covered 1/2 of the gas expense.

Trying to keep that monitor dry. We wanted to see KG and the Celtics kick some ass on those over-rated Lakers, and they did.

Happy birthday to "uke."
